بيان لمنظمة مراقبة حقوق الإنسان ضد اعتقال ومحاكمة العبادي

“The only reason al-‘Abbadi languishes in jail waiting for his court verdict is that he’s a government opponent exercising his right to free speech,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, director of Human Rights Watch’s Middle East division. "

من جهتنا فإننا نطالب باطلاق سراح عويدي العبادي فورا ومع ممارسة حقه الكامل والإنساني في التعبير عن رأيه

here is the problem with the freedom of speech argument in the context of Jordanian politics and Abbadi. we all know darn well that no one in Jordan will be permitted to take the opposite point of view of Abbadi and get away with it. Remember Abu Odeh? he did not offend anyone and he almost got locked in jail. And if you let Abbadi get away with his hate speech, how will you deal with his opponents' hate speech?

Definately, he is a thug and I do not agree with his view points. Isn't he the one who bit Mansour Murad's ear!! Still, he is not the only thug, and his views are shared by many in the high echelon of the government and political elites in Jordan. The secterianism is rife in Jordan politics and in our daily life from all sides, from within and without. Take for example some students in the universities, Palaimentary elections - the MP of services - service for whom, and by whom, and how is he elected to begin with, and by whom; the election using mono-vote that is going on in Jordan..That being said; Albadi share his confused secterian views more or less with others, specially within the ruling classes in Jordan. And they tolerate, if not cherished, such views; and I believe he is not in presion for his secterian views, rather because of his excessiveness that start bitting them in the ass, specially when it is coming at a bad time. If he'll tone it done, I am sure he would've been somewhere else?!

Well, for us to agree with his arrest on the account of expressing his views is something different and wrong, I believe:

2. It will not stop his views from being propagated, it could actually add some credibility to it, at the same time that people in power in law, wret, and deeds are creating breading ground for such views.

2. We are giving the people in power a nodge to handle and decide who is and who is not entitled for a free speech; Nothing worse than that.

3. His devisive views are condoned by the ones in power; And they might be helping him even while in prision.
so to grant AL-Abadi his freedom of speech is better to disavow and attack his views than allow him to vent his views out from his preson cell as a "hero" of such despicable secteriamism. This will help propel his views more within his followers, and will give the government the false appearance of standing against whatever Al-Abadi stands for.

I am with his right to express his views; but definately against those views and will encourage everyone to criticize them as they are manefest in Al-Abadi and through the regime discource.
